About the Company

Our customer is an Australian specialist company providing dam and reservoir inspection, condition assessment, and safety-related inspection services to asset owners, water authorities, councils, and infrastructure operators. The company had strong field expertise and specialist inspection capabilities but wanted to modernise the technology behind its inspection process.

To achieve this, the company partnered with High-On Innovation (HOI) as a white-label technology and software development partner. HOI worked behind the scenes to provide the required digital engineering capabilities while the Australian company continued to deliver the inspection services under its own brand.

The objective was to bring together ROV-based underwater inspection, inspection data, asset records, monitoring information, and reporting into a more efficient and connected digital workflow. HOI's white-label approach allowed the inspection company to strengthen its technology capabilities without building an in-house software development team.

The Challenge

Difficult & Risky Underwater Inspections

Traditional underwater inspection activities can require specialist personnel, equipment, access planning and significant safety precautions.

For certain submerged areas, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) can provide a safer and more efficient way to capture visual information without unnecessarily exposing inspection personnel to hazardous underwater environments.

Large Volumes of Inspection Data

ROV inspections can generate substantial volumes of underwater video, imagery and observations.

Managing this information manually made it difficult to organise inspection evidence and quickly retrieve historical information.

Fragmented Inspection Workflow

Field inspection information, observations, asset records and reporting activities were handled through multiple processes.

This created additional administrative work and increased the possibility of information being duplicated or overlooked.

Limited Long-Term Asset Visibility

The inspection company needed a better way to compare current observations with historical inspection records and identify changes in asset condition over time.

Reporting Bottlenecks

Inspection teams needed to transform large amounts of field data into clear reports for asset owners and decision-makers.

The process could become time-consuming when information was collected across different systems.

HOI's Solution

HOI developed a white-label digital inspection and monitoring platform that supported the customer's existing dam inspection expertise while modernising the technology layer behind its services.

The customer remained the inspection and engineering service provider, while HOI operated as the technology development partner.

ROV-Based Underwater Inspection

The solution supported the integration of Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) inspection workflows.

ROVs could be used to capture underwater video and imagery of critical submerged areas, helping inspection teams collect visual evidence while reducing the need for direct human exposure in challenging underwater environments.

Captured inspection evidence could then be associated with the relevant asset, location and inspection record.

Digital Inspection Management

HOI created a structured digital workflow for managing:

  • Inspection Projects

  • Dam & Reservoir Assets

  • Inspection Locations

  • ROV Inspection Data

  • Images & Video

  • Defect Observations

  • Inspection History

  • Reports & Documentation

This transformed inspection information from disconnected files into structured digital asset data.

Asset Condition Monitoring

The platform created a centralised view of inspection history and asset condition.

Inspection teams could record observations and compare them against previous inspection information, helping identify changes that may require further investigation by appropriately qualified professionals.

This supports the broader principle of ongoing dam surveillance and assessment used in dam-safety management.

Intelligent Monitoring Dashboard

HOI developed a monitoring dashboard that provided visibility into:

  • Asset Condition

  • Inspection Status

  • Identified Observations

  • Inspection History

  • ROV Inspection Records

  • Risk Indicators

  • Outstanding Actions

  • Upcoming Inspections

This gave the inspection company and its clients a clearer view of the condition-monitoring lifecycle.

Digital Reporting

Instead of manually assembling information from multiple sources, inspection teams could use structured inspection data to streamline report preparation.

The platform helped bring together:

Field Data → ROV Footage → Observations → Asset History → Assessment Information → Client Report

This reduced administrative effort and improved consistency across inspection projects.

Technologies

  • ROV Inspection Technology – Underwater video and imagery capture

  • Cloud Platform – Centralised inspection and asset data

  • IoT & Monitoring – Asset condition and operational monitoring

  • AI & Data Analytics – Inspection insights and trend identification

  • GIS / Location Data – Asset and inspection-location mapping

  • Digital Reporting – Automated inspection documentation

  • API Integration – Connectivity with existing inspection systems

The Result

Safer Inspection Operations

ROV-supported inspection workflows enabled the customer to collect underwater inspection evidence remotely in suitable inspection scenarios, reducing reliance on direct underwater access.

Faster Inspection Management

Digital workflows reduced the administrative effort required to organise inspection records, evidence and observations.

Better Asset Visibility

A centralised digital platform provided a clearer historical view of inspection activities and asset conditions.

Faster Reporting

Structured inspection information simplified the transition from field observations to client-ready reporting.

Improved Client Experience

Asset owners received a more transparent view of inspection activities, observations and historical information through a modern digital interface.

Scalable Inspection Business

The white-label platform gave the Australian inspection company a technology foundation that could be reused across dams, reservoirs, water infrastructure and other critical assets without requiring a completely new system for every project.

Business Impact

The real value of the project was not simply introducing an ROV or developing another inspection application.

HOI transformed the inspection company's technology workflow around the way its specialists actually work.

Previously:

Inspect → Record → Organise Files → Analyse → Prepare Report

After digital transformation:

Inspect → Capture → Digitise → Monitor → Analyse → Report

The result was a more connected inspection ecosystem where field technology, inspection data, asset history and client reporting work together.

Why HOI?

HOI acted as the white-label technology partner behind the inspection business, allowing the Australian company to retain its own brand, engineering expertise and customer relationships while leveraging HOI's capabilities in:

  • Custom Software Development

  • AI & Automation

  • IoT Integration

  • ROV Data Integration

  • Cloud Platforms

  • Asset Management Systems

  • Data Analytics

  • Digital Dashboards

  • API Integration

This model allows specialist infrastructure companies to offer sophisticated digital inspection capabilities without having to build and maintain the technology team internally.

From Inspection Expertise to Digital Asset Intelligence

HOI helps infrastructure inspection companies turn field data into connected digital intelligence—making inspections more efficient, information more accessible, and asset monitoring more scalable.
